Verwood expanded dramatically from the 1970s onwards, so most of the town is comparatively modern estate housing with interlocking concrete tiles, trussed roofs and simple, accessible roof shapes. Scattered around it are older cottages and smallholdings on the heathland edge, plus a good number of properties with substantial outbuildings, garages and workshops carrying flat or low-pitch roofs.

Because the housing stock is younger, full re-roofs are less common here than in Wimborne or Christchurch.
